ALTERNATIVE SUSPENSION COORDINATOR

ORGANISATIONAL CONTEXT: YMCA Dublin has been working with young people
in Dublin?s Inner City for over **Apply on the website** years. We
run programmes in youth work, education, family support, community
childcare and community employment. To support our services, we run
two social enterprises ? Dublin YMCA Gyms in Aungier Street and
Sandymount, and YMCA Childcare in Aungier Street.

Due to the success of our existing programmes and our social
enterprise initiatives, we are looking to recruit an ALTERNATIVE
SUSPENSION COORDINATOR. This is a new post in Dublin YMCA and will be
a ONE year contract with renewal subject to funding.

PROJECT INFORMATION: YMCA Alternative Suspension (?AS?) is an
exciting initiative that aims to reduce suspensions and early school
dropouts. AS has been developed and franchised by our colleagues in
YMCA Canada and has been successfully running for over **Apply on the
website** years. The programme model will begin it?s Pilot here in
Ireland in September **Apply on the website** with 4 schools.

YMCA Dublin Alternative Suspension is a research-based dropout
prevention model that helps students achieve the important outcomes
that are determining factors in school success. Working alongside
schools AS provides an alternative for young people who would
otherwise be suspended. It is designed to ensure rapid intervention
for those experiencing academic and behavioural difficulties.

Participants aged **Apply on the website** are required to complete
their school assignments at the YMCA while also participating in group
workshops, such as conflict resolution, anger management, individual
counselling and educational training.

The program Coordinator has continuous communication with parents and
school throughout the participation. Following their participation,
the Coordinator accompanies the student upon return to school to meet
with the school principal, and parents. This is to discuss the young
person's participation and to set them up on a path for success.
Follow-ups with all parties are conducted one month after the return
to school, to assess progress and ensure they are keeping to the
commitments made during the program.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:

* Ensure program objectives are met;
* Produce reports within set deadlines and according to parameters
set by partners, including financial and activity reporting;
* Ensure an ongoing evaluation of service
* Create, maintain, and consolidate ties with partner schools, and
community partners;
* Support and manage the rest of the staff team who work in
Alternative Suspension;
* Ensure transparent and clear communications with internal YMCA
colleagues as well as international partners;
* Maintain strategic ties with key players in the neighbourhoods
served (school principals, home school liaison officers, potential new
funders, community players, etc.);
* Support and facilitate all network-related activities, including
participation in meetings, webinars, workshops and site-visits;
* Intervenes with secondary school students on an individual basis
and in a group setting;
* Facilitates daily group workshops on social or behavioural issues
(e.g. anger management, responsibility, bullying, etc.);
* Implements a strong youth-work approach informed by program and
participants? objectives;
* Communicates regularly with participants? parents/guardians
throughout the program and its follow-up processes;
* Attends and facilitates regular reintegration meetings with
program youth, parents and school administrators;
* Develop and Facilitate out of term workshops and trips for
continued supports to participants;
* To make a contribution to the ongoing development and evolution of
the programme, and any other duties related to the delivery of YMCA
Youth Work;
* Adhere to the YMCA policies and procedures regarding the
protection of children and vulnerable people;
* To abide by YMCA Policies and Procedures;

PROVEN EXPERIENCE:

Third Level Education is desirable and preferably the post holder will
have a third level qualification in the area of education,
youth/community work, social sciences or other related field.
Applicants should have at least 2 years experience of working with
young people in an educational or youth work setting. We also welcome
applications from candidates who can demonstrate relevant skills
developed through professional work experience.
